Sitapur Beach is the sunrise beach of Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). On the far eastern side of the island, away from the jetty and the busier beaches, a rugged sweep of silver-white sand faces the open Bay of Bengal, and each morning the sun rises straight out of the sea in front of you. It is quiet, wild and a little dramatic, with rocky edges, small limestone caves at low tide and almost no crowds. If Laxmanpur is for sunsets, Sitapur is for the first light of the day.
Sitapur is about a 15 to 20 minute ride from the jetty and is best visited early. This guide covers what to see and do, an honest note on swimming, how to reach it, the best time of day and year, and how to plan your morning. If you would rather have the early transfers and timing arranged for you, explore our Andaman tour packages, planned by Andaman Emerald Travels, a travel team based in the Andamans.

About Sitapur Beach
Sitapur sits at the quieter end of Neil, a long way from the busy jetty area. The beach is wide and open, with silver-white sand, a little rock and a gentle cliff at one end. Because it faces east towards the open sea, the horizon is clear, and the sun comes up in full view. Waves here are more forceful than on the calmer, sheltered beaches near the jetty, which is part of its wild character.
Because it is early-morning country, the beach is usually empty outside sunrise hours, and there are no big resorts or loud crowds. A few low-key stays are nearby. For a lively contrast, see Bharatpur Beach, which is the activity hub, and Laxmanpur Beach, which is the sunset beach.
Important Note on Swimming
Swimming at Sitapur is generally not recommended. The beach is open to the sea, currents can be strong. Enjoy the beach from the sand, keep children well back from the waves and save your swim for Bharatpur Beach, where the water is calm and supervised.
Things to Do at Sitapur Beach
Watch the Sunrise
This is the reason to come. Arrive about 30 to 45 minutes before sunrise, find a spot on the sand or a rock, and watch the sky shift from deep blue to pink, orange and gold. The experience is calm and unhurried, and the light on the water is beautiful for photographs. It is a different mood from the busier sunrise spots on Havelock Island, such as Kalapathar Beach.
Walk to the Limestone Caves at Low Tide
At low tide, you can walk along the shore to a second bay and look at small limestone caves in the rocks. The ground is uneven and slippery, so take care, wear shoes with grip and check the tide before you go. Do not enter caves alone or when the tide is rising.
Coastal Photography
The rocks, the cliff and the open sea give a stronger, more rugged look than the sheltered beaches nearby. Early morning light is soft and golden, and the beach is quiet enough for careful composition.
Peaceful Morning Time
After sunrise, simply sit, listen to the waves and enjoy the quiet. Fresh coconuts are usually the only thing on sale, so bring water and a snack.

Best Time to Visit Sitapur Beach
The best time of day is sunrise, so plan to be there around 5 to 6 am depending on the season. The best season is October to May, when skies are clearer. The sun rises early, and the beach is typically open from the early morning hours. Monsoon months bring cloud and rough seas that can hide the sunrise and make the shore unsafe.
Sitapur lies roughly 4 to 6 km from the Neil Island jetty, and sources give different figures, so allow 15 to 20 minutes by road. First reach Neil by ferry from Port Blair or from Havelock. Autos, rented scooters and bicycles are the usual ways to get there, and local buses run only infrequently, so do not rely on them for a sunrise visit. If you are on one of our packages, your private transfer takes you directly at the right hour.

Visitor Tips for Sitapur Beach
Arrive before sunrise. The light changes quickly and the best colours come first.
Do not swim. Currents are strong, so enjoy the beach from the sand.
Check the tide. Visit the caves only at low tide and leave before it rises.
Wear shoes with grip. Rocks and wet sand are slippery.
Carry water and a snack. Facilities are very limited, and shops open late.
Use mosquito repellent. Insects can be active in the early morning.
Arrange your return. Few vehicles are available this far from the jetty.
Carry your waste out. Keep the beach clean.
Plan for accessibility. The beach is not wheelchair friendly, and the walk over rock can be difficult.
