Bharatpur Beach is the most popular beach on Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) and the island’s water sports hub. It sits only a few minutes from the jetty, so it is usually the first place visitors see, and many say it is also the best. The water is shallow, clear and calm, the sand is soft and the coral is close to shore, which makes it ideal for a first snorkel, a glass-bottom boat ride or a relaxed family swim.
Bharatpur is busy compared with the rest of Neil, but it keeps the island’s easy, friendly feel. This guide covers what to do, safety notes, the best time, how to reach it, what to bring and how to fit it into your Neil Island plan. If you would rather have the ferry, transfers and activities arranged for you, explore our Andaman tour packages, planned by Andaman Emerald Travels, a travel team based in the Andamans.

Bharatpur is a wide, gently sloping beach with pale sand and clear shallow water that stays the same depth for a long way out. A strip of tropical forest runs behind the shore, giving the setting a green, natural frame. The reef lies just offshore, and colourful fish are easy to spot even from the surface.
Because it is close to the jetty, the beach is the centre of Neil’s activity scene. Counters along the sand offer boat rides, snorkelling and other activities, and small stalls sell snacks, drinks and souvenirs. It can be busy at midday in peak season, but the beach is long enough to find a quiet patch. For quieter beaches on the same island, see Laxmanpur Beach for sunset and Sitapur Beach for sunrise.
Things to Do at Bharatpur Beach
Glass-Bottom Boat Ride
The glass-bottom boat is the most popular activity here. A small boat takes you over the reef while you watch coral and fish through a clear panel in the floor. It is ideal for children, seniors and anyone who prefers to stay dry, and it is a good way to preview the reef before you snorkel.
Snorkelling
Snorkelling here is gentle and beginner-friendly. Boat-based trips take you to better parts of the reef, with a guide and a life jacket. Visibility and coral condition vary with the tide and season, so ask your guide what to expect.
Scuba Diving
Introductory scuba diving is offered by local operators, including boat-based dives suitable for beginners and certified divers. As always, a briefing, a health declaration and an instructor are part of the experience, and not everyone qualifies.
Jet Skiing, Banana Boat and Parasailing
For more thrill, the beach and a nearby water sports complex offer jet skiing, banana boat rides, speed boat rides and sometimes parasailing. Availability depends on the season, weather and operators.
Swimming and Relaxing
The shallow, calm water makes Bharatpur one of the easiest beaches on the island for swimming. Stay within the areas used by the operators and keep an eye on children. When the sea is rough or the tide is low, swimming may be less comfortable, so ask locally.
Snacks and Souvenirs
Small stalls and cafes sell fresh coconut, fruit, snacks and light meals, along with simple souvenirs. Shops tend to close early in the evening, so visit before about 5 pm.

Best Time to Visit Bharatpur Beach
The best season is October to May, when the sea is very calm, visibility is better and activities run reliably. Morning is the best time of day, as the water is calmest and the crowds are smaller. Monsoon months bring rain and rough seas, and activities may be suspended.
Bharatpur is the closest beach to the Neil Island jetty, usually described as 300 to 500 metres away, so it is easy to walk or take a short auto ride. First reach Neil by ferry from Port Blair or from Havelock Island. If you are on one of our packages, your transfer takes you directly, and we plan the beach visit around your ferry time.
