Baludera Beach is a quiet, mangrove-fringed beach on Baratang Island, tucked away from the usual tourist trail. Most people come to Baratang for the limestone caves and the mud volcano, and many leave without ever seeing the beach. That is a pity, because Baludera offers something different: a calm shore, clean water, green mangroves and long stretches of peace, with hardly anyone else around. On many days you may have it almost to yourself.
Baludera lies a short drive from the Baratang jetty, and it is usually visited as a rest stop or an add-on to a longer day. This guide covers what to expect, how to reach it, the safety points to know, the best time to go and how to fit it into a Baratang trip. If you would rather have the transport, timing and local guide arranged for you, explore our Andaman tour packages, planned by Andaman Emerald Travels, a travel team based in the Andamans.

Baludera is an untouched stretch of coast on the Middle Andaman side of Baratang. The beach is lined with trees and natural mangroves, the sand is clean and the water is clear and calm. Unlike the beaches of Havelock, there are no water sports counters, no resort strip and no crowds. Local families sometimes come for picnics at weekends, but on most weekdays the beach is empty.
That emptiness is its charm and also its limit. There is little here to do except walk, sit, take photographs and enjoy the quiet, so it works best as a short, restful break rather than a full-day destination. It is a good companion to the main Baratang attractions, the mud volcano and the mangrove creeks and limestone caves.
The simplest pleasure is a slow walk along the shore, with the trees and mangroves on one side and the calm water on the other. Sit in the shade, listen to the birds and let the pace of the day slow down.
The contrast of green mangroves, pale sand and clear water makes for pretty, quiet landscapes. Early morning and late afternoon give the softest light.
Because facilities are limited, a picnic is the best way to enjoy the beach. Bring your own food, water and a bag to take your waste back with you. Pick a shady spot, and leave nothing behind.
The mangroves are home to birds, crabs and other small creatures. Look but do not disturb them, and keep a respectful distance from any wildlife you see.
| Highlight | What It Is | Approx. Time Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Beach walk | A quiet shoreline with mangroves | 20 to 30 minutes |
| Picnic and rest | Shade, calm water and peace | 30 to 60 minutes |
| Photography | Mangroves, sand and soft light | 20 to 30 minutes |
| Nature watching | Birds, crabs and mangrove life | 15 to 30 minutes |
Timings are approximate and vary with the tide, season and weather.
The best season is October to May, when the roads are dry and the weather is pleasant. Late morning to afternoon is the best time of day for a quiet stop. Monsoon months bring heavy rain, muddy roads and rough seas, and the beach is less enjoyable.
| Months | Season | What to Expect | Our Guides |
|---|---|---|---|
| October to November | Post-monsoon | Lush greenery; some muddy roads | October, November |
| December to February | Peak season | Best weather and clear skies; book early | December, January, February |
| March to May | Summer | Warm and humid; visit in the shade | March, April, May |
| June to September | Monsoon | Heavy rain and rough seas; trips may be cancelled | June, July, August, September |
Baludera is reached by road from the Baratang jetty, about 9 km away. Most visitors travel from Port Blair by road, join the convoy through the tribal reserve and cross the water by ferry at the Baratang jetty. Because transport at Baludera is scarce, it is best to hire a cab or use your own vehicle for a two-way trip. If you are on one of our packages, your private cab takes you from Port Blair and waits for you.
| Stage | What Happens | Things to Note |
|---|---|---|
| Port Blair to Baratang | Early start; convoy through the reserve; ferry crossing | Long journey; follow all convoy and reserve rules |
| Baratang jetty to Baludera | A short drive of about 9 km | Hire a cab for a two-way trip; transport is scarce |
| Return | Back to the jetty, ferry and convoy to Port Blair | Plan to finish before dark |
Convoy times, ferry schedules and rules change, so confirm everything before you travel. Carry valid photo ID. Public buses also run on the island, but they are slow and infrequent, so a private cab is far more practical.
| Time | Plan |
|---|---|
| Early morning | Leave Port Blair and drive through the forest road |
| Late morning | Ferry crossing, then the creek boat ride and limestone caves |
| Midday | Mud volcano and a packed lunch |
| Afternoon | Short stop at Baludera Beach for a rest and photographs |
| Late afternoon | Return to the jetty and join the convoy back to Port Blair |
